Legendary reggae band will spice up Chili Fest

Kick off your summer with some P-funk and reggae at this year's Snowmass Chili Pepper & Brew Fest. The legendary reggae band The Wailers will open for headliner George Clinton and the Parliament-Funkadelic, who will perform in Snowmass Village, on Saturday evening, June 5.

“These two bands are definitely all about the party,” said Josh Behrman, Event Director. “This is the only Colorado appearance for George Clinton and the Parliament-Funkadelic, so you don't want to miss it. Plus, it's just an awesome way to start off the summer.”

Clinton formed the band Parliament back in 1955 as a doo-wop band singing love songs and then revolutionized the music of the 1970s with his band Funkadelic, which emulated the psychedelic guitar strains of Jimi Hendrix, a sound unheard of at that time.

Now the two bands combined, Parliament-Funkadelic or P-Funk, consist of up to 22 master musicians who are known to play a melding of rhythm and blues, jazz, gospel and psychedelic rock. Clinton, also known as the Godfather of Modern Urban Music, has inspired artists such as the Outkasts, Snoop Dog, Missy Elliott, Dr. Dre, Busta Rhymes and Fishbone.

This is Clinton's only Colorado appearance this summer.

The Wailers, together with Bob Marley, have sold in excess of 250 million albums worldwide and have played to an estimated 24 million people across the world. Outside of their work with Marley, the Wailers have also played with Sting, the Fugees, Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana and reggae legends such as Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer and Burning Spear.

The lead man of the Wailers, bassist Aston “Family Man” Barrett, is regarded as a great bass player and represents the tried and trusted roots of reggae music and injects fresh excitement into a show that continues to attract enthusiastic audiences.

Rising folk/pop singer/songwriter, Brett Dennen, will perform with his band at the Chili Pepper & Brew Fest on Friday evening, June 4. Dennen is known for his 2008 hit “Make You Crazy” and has made live appearances on Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, the Ellen DeGeneres Show and the Late Show with David Letterman.

He has toured extensively across the country with his band supporting musicians such as John Mayer, toured with Guster and received praise from Michael Franti and Jason Mraz. Snowmass Village is the only place Dennen will play in Colorado this summer.

This year's Chili Pepper & Brew Fest will bring back the popular Champion Tasting Pass that debuted last year combing, chili and beer tasting, along with Skyy Vodka and Cabo Tequila tastings. For more information on the 2010 Snowmass Chili Pepper & Brew Fest, go to www.snowmasschiliandbrew.com.
