Local Girl Scouts to hear about climate change

Aspen Girl Scout troops 3723 and 3746 are hosting a screening of “Young Voices on Climate Change,” a series of short films by children's book author/producer Lynne Cherry, on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in the Aspen High School seminar room.

“Young Voices on Climate Change” presents the inspiring international stories of young people taking action to help find solutions to the global warming crisis. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Cherry and a book-signing.

The “Young Voices on Climate Change” project is inspired by Cherry's acclaimed book, “How We Know What We Know About Our Changing Climate — Scientists and Kids Explore Global Warming,” and Gary Braasch's “Earth Under Fire: How Global Warming is Changing the World.” Cherry is an author/illustrator of more than 30 environmental books including the children's rain forest classic, “The Great Kapok Tree.”

The event is open to the public, and the Girl Scouts are requesting a $5 donation at the door to help Cherry incorporate the Girl Scout story in a half-hour version of the film to be shown at the Copenhagen Climate Talks in December 2009.
