Letters to the Editor- Aug 20

Home turf was sweet deal

Editor:

The Snowmass Recreation Department held the 11-12 years recreation baseball double elimination tournament last week and it was a huge success. This was the first year that the Town of Snowmass Village ever played a baseball game on home turf let alone fielded a team, and two teams were formed in the league. Thank you to everyone who had a part in making this season both memorable and extremely fun.

A big thank you goes out to the two coaches, Roger Marolt and Doug Throm, without your tireless efforts and sharing of your knowledge, this year would not have been possible. The amount that these kids improved their skill level through out the summer really could be measured by their smiles, and you two need to be commended. To all the valley recreation coaches, on behalf of the children, parents and recreation programmer’s thank you for all that you have done; this league would not be possible without you.

Thank you to all of our sponsors for the season: Alpine Bank, Weitz Construction, Tasters Pizza, Mountain Dragon, Wienerdog Kids Toys, and the Town of Snowmass Village, it is because of you that we all had so much fun. Thank you to Patrick Faurer, for his tireless umpiring and for doing such a great job. For the huge party on the tournament championship day, thank you to Stacey Forster and Taster’s Pizza for providing the mountain of pizza and soft drink to celebrate the final day.

A huge thank you to the Town of Snowmass Village Parks’ crew for keeping the field lined and in tip-top shape for the whole season. Lastly, to all the parents in both Snowmass Village and across the valley, for all of your support and sportsmanship that you provided through out the summer. I know your kids really appreciate your support and efforts that you go to in supporting them.

Thank you again, I look forward to seeing you all next year and to expanding the Youth Baseball program in Snowmass Village and across the valley.

Yours in Recreation.

Nothing is impossible

Editor:
Michael Phelps just won eight gold medals in Olympic swimming. Some said it was impossible to achieve. With the help of his teammates, a dream was fulfilled.
Well, here in the glorious mountains of Aspen, Snowmass, Buttermilk and Highlands....many people have dreamed of connecting the four mountains aerially (gondola/tram). Others have said “it is impossible!”
I say...let’s start now. A petition/survey is being circulated throughout all four mountain areas to be given to the elected officials in Aspen, Snowmass and Pitkin County on Thursday, Aug. 21, at their 4 p.m. EOTC meeting in Snowmass Town Hall called.... “The Power of the Four----It’s Time to Connect the Four.”
Together we can make a dream come true!
